❝ Beautiful Tragedies.
So these are the books I've read for the past few weeks. I had no idea that all of these stories would end in tragedies except for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was just simply beautiful on how each author made the story touching by adding a twist on it. Life is never a happily ever after. Life is not a fairy tale. In spite of that, I was very astonished of how each story was written. A Corner of the Universe; by Ann M. Martin This is a story about friendship and love. Not romance though. This is a very important book because it shows that all of us are different in our own ways. We are unique. We are special. The story is about Hattie Owen. An ordinary girl from Millerton. She's been living the same routine over and over, until one summer, when she was about to turn twelve, she unexpectedly met a younger uncle.. that has mental problems. Despite of this situation, they got along very well, and this changed her life. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button; F. Scott Fitzgerald. One of the very famous authors during the Jazz Age here in America. That was the 1920s, in case you didn't know. :) Fitzgerald certainly writes about the American dream. His novels, the Great Gatsby has the same theme according to people who have read the book. The ending of this book was no surprise to me. I have seen the movie which caught my attention on how I felt sad and happy for Benjamin. The story begins when a boy was given birth in Baltimore. Everybody was afraid assuming that he was a monster, for he was born old. Even his own dad couldn't accept the fact that he is his son. But despite of this, Benjamin was able to live a normal life. He joined the navy, fell in love, had a son and his own family. To be honest, I think the movie was better, but there's no movie if there's no book. :) Message in a Bottle; Nicholas Sparks Now, who hasn't heard of the author? Certainly no one. Haha! :D Nicholas Sparks is know for his books. Each book has a twist at the end which makes tears fall down. I've been warned by people around me that this will certainly make me cry. And so I did. Even the praise for the book in the front cover warned me. It says, "The novel's unabashed emotion -- and unexpected turn -- will put tears in your eyes." It certainly did. It did, it did. The story started when divorced Theresa Osborne found a bottle by the shore containing a letter. It stunned her hard. It was so beautiful that it made her cry. It was simply addressed to "Catherine" and signed by "Garret." She was a columnist in the Boston Times and she published the letter but not revealing the names of the people mentioned in the letter. Within days, she received hundreds of letters and phone calls from people who have read the article, having the same reaction as she did. She found more letters that other people found and sent it to her. On of the letters clarified that Catherine was dead and she was Garret's wife. Out of curiosity, she flew to Wilmington, North Carolina to find the mystery person named Garret Blake. And she certainly did. They fell in love. Theresa didn't tell Garret about the letters because she thought it wasn't just the right time. To her surprise, Garret found the letters himself when he was trying to write a letter for Theresa to apologize when they had a fight. This made Garret furious, accusing Theresa that it was all a set up. He flew back to North Carolina. Theresa followed him to explain herself. She said that maybe they weren't meant to be. So, she left him even though it hurt so bad. Garret tried to catch her but he didn't. SPOILER! The next night after that, Garret went sailing late at night when he knew there was a storm coming. He sadly didn't make it in time and his body was found the next morning. Jeb Blake, Garret's father, called Theresa and they both mourned for the sudden lost of him. Theresa felt so bad. She knew that it was so hard to leave Garret but knowing that she lost him forever stung. She thought it was her fault. When she got back from Boston, she received a package. She opened it. To her surprise, it was a bottle with a letter in it. As she had thought, it was from Garret, written two weeks before. He was apologizing for accusing her and hurting her like that. He said he had a dream of Catherine. He hesitantly admitted to Catherine that he loved Theresa. Catherine simply answered, "Oh, Garret, who do you think it was that brought the bottle to her?" That night after that, he wrote two letters. One for Theresa and one for Catherine. He went sailing that night to throw his last letter to Catherine, that it was a goodbye. He had planned to visit Theresa in Boston a week after he went sailing. But sadly, the Atlantic submerged Happenstance, the boat he was sailing. He struggled to swim to shore, but it was too far away. He didn't lose hope. Sadly, he didn't make it. ----------------- Sorry if the last one was too long. And if I spoiled you, I'm really sorry. I was just really stunned and shocked and astonished all the same time by the ending. It was truly beautiful. One of the best books I've read.
