❝ (500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer premiered a few years ago but I only got the chance to watch it like a month ago. I have to say that it is one of the best romantic-comedy movies I've watched, not only because I liked the story and all, but one quote has inspired me to make a life changing decision.
The movie is very smooth and well done. The movie is presented in a nonlinear narrative. At the beginning of the movie, we see them break up, and Tom, the protagonist of the movie does not handle this very well. The film centers the 500 days where Tom was with Summer. However, the introduction gives you a heads up that the movie is not a love story, but it is a story about love.
The movie shows the truths in a relationship, its ups and downs, the difference between reality and expectations and almost about everything. Their relationship was much more complicated than your Facebook relationship status could say. Tom is in love with Summer, whereas Summer does not believe in true love and does not want to have a boyfriend. As they grew closer, Tom began to wonder what he was in her life. Summer simply answered, "I'm happy. Aren't you happy?" Or something like that. -__-
At the course of the movie, you will see Tom fall in love with Summer, cry over her, hate her, and wishes that he had never met her, although not particularly in that order.
Tom was strucked by Summer's beauty when she was hired assistant in the greeting card company. He started talking to her and later admits to his friend McKenzie that he is in love with Summer. This is later revealed to her when McKenzie was drunk during karaoke night, and tells Summer.
Tom shows Summer his favorite spot in the city on day 488. And here comes the part where the movie has inspired me big time. I'm not sure if I heard it right because when I tried to search around the internet, the quote was backwards, which I knew he also said because he was depressed. So here's the quote whether it's really the one in the movie.
"Why make something disposable like a greeting card, when you can make something that lasts forever, like a building."
I know you are already guessing what decision it made me make -- to take up architecture. I was so inspired. I've always wanted to die and be remembered. Maybe not my name, but something I had made that I would be forever proud.
How the movie ended? Well, it wasn't really a happy ending. Summer gets married to another guy. Tom pursued architecture and he was trying out on different architectural firms. He then meets a girl that shares the same favorite spot in the city, and hates parking lots (just like Tom) He tried to ignore the feelings coming up but then realized to give it another try and he later finds out the her name was "Autumn."
I am also in love with the soundtrack to the movie so I do recommend that you listen to it. I really liked the movie so if you haven't watched it, I am really asking you that you do. However, people have mixed opinions for the movie, I think it was beyond perfect.
Cheers.
