❝ Let the 74th Hunger Games begin!
I've been a huge fan of the book and I believe I posted an entry about it somewhere around here. (Tip: Click the entries button and you'd see the post) And seeing it come to life was just breathtaking. It was an unbelievable experience since this would be the first time that a book I became obsessed with premieres in the silver screen. And now, I will share you my experience and TRY not to spoil the movie for you, in case some of you still haven't watched the movie. (Well, it's not even a week since it premiered soo..)
On March 22, I couldn't feel more excited. We went to Manila before watching so I've been seeing countless billboards and I also bought a movie companion. But we would only be watching the SM Bacoor so commuting would be easier. We had our reservations on the last full time show, which is around 9pm -- and btw, the mall closes at 9 so the movie would be over at around passed 11.
As I have said, it's not even a week, and I've already seen the movie twice. One with my cousins, and one with my friends. I felt the same thing on both of the times I've seen the film, well almost the same as the first. Wait, no, the first was too different. I was in the middle of texting and when the lights went off and the Lionsgate introduction went up, literally dropped my phone (in my lap. lol) I was so hooked in the movie that I did not even bother to check it.
In the whole course of the movie, I felt chills, I felt my heart beating fast, and most of all I feel like crying. Even though there's not much reason for this. I know some of you may think I'm overreacting, but I know if you're a fan from the book, you'll understand what I'm feeling. Although I must say that the movie COULD HAVE been better, but I must also say that it is a great film adaptation of the book. They also added scenes which is great. Like the scenes with President Snow and Seneca Crane. I also loved that there was a fire when Katniss twirled during the interview, because I'm pretty sure that because of that, it will surprise non-readers on the second installment of the movie.
Here are a few scenes in which I expected more.
1. Peeta and Katniss Bread scene in District 12. I thought the scene wasn't explained and emphasized thoroughly, because in this you would know that Peeta has loved Katniss way before the reaping. And that it wasn't all for the Games. And I also thought that it would have been better they showed that Peeta purposely burned the bread and took the slap from his mother just to give it to Katniss. Because to me, it looked like he accidentally burned the bread, his mother got mad, and when he was about to feed it to the pigs, he saw Katniss outside in the rain and decided to give it to her when in fact, he would PURPOSELY give it to her.
2. The cave scene. Although I am satisfied that there weren't a lot of kissing and all those mushy scenes, I thought there was something missing in the cave scene -- THE STORIES. I thought Peeta could have told more that he's been in love with Katniss since the day she sang (However, his final line did give me chills.) And they also didn't include the part where Katniss tells about Prim's goat.
3. Rue's death. It would have been better if they followed the sequence in the book where Rue get killed in the net when Marvel throws a spear at here before Katniss could even let her out. I just thought it would have been more dramatic.
4. Their entrance. Okay, I must say that their entrance was ASTONISHING. Astonishing -- minus the fire. The fire was all fake, but other than that it was great.
So, there you have it. Everything was great although the movie, as I have said, could have been better. There a lot of shaky camera scenes but other than that it was a great film. A great adaptation that I wouldn't be tired of watching over and over.
And for you who've seen the film, I know you totally dig the Effie and the Mahogany scene! :)
PS. WE WORE OUR MOCKINGJAY PINS! :)
